Turnout vs Finicky

Finicky is free, open source and endlessly flexible: you describe your rules in a JavaScript or TypeScript file. Turnout does the common jobs without code, from a settings window, and adds a picker for links no rule covers.

Choose Finicky if

  • You’re comfortable in JavaScript and want logic no settings window can express.
  • You want free and open source, with your config in version control.

Choose Turnout if

  • You’d rather set rules in a settings window than in code.
  • You want a picker for links no rule covers, built in.
  • You want Slack, Google and Outlook links unwrapped without writing rewrite rules.
  • You want Turnout to suggest and write rules from the links you open.

Switching from Finicky

Once Turnout is out, install it and choose it as your default browser instead of Finicky. Then add your most-used Finicky rules in Settings › Rules: domains and keywords map straight across.

Turnout is coming soon. Join the waiting list and we’ll email you when it’s ready.
